The Seawind 300C was originally sold as a kit. Their latest aircraft, pictured above, is factory produced. It is a seaplane design with the ability to also use runways as an amphibian. The airplane uses a boat-like hull rather than pontoons.

The Seawind 300C differs from its predecessors by the addition of a new engine that provides 33% more power. The aircraft's hull has been enlarged to provide better handling and increase buoyancy. Its manufacturer tells us that it is the world's fastest four seat seaplane and that its cabin is the largest in its class. The fiberglass hull is built for strength and durability and will not corrode.

The Seawind 300C design features drooped wing tips for increased ground effect to aid take offs. Its tractor engine is on top of the airplane, as far away from spray as possible.  Nose wheel steering and differential braking make for a very maneuverable airplane with a tight turning radius while on land.  The ailerons also serve as flaperons to provide increased lift for take offs and landings.

Pilots tell us that visibility from the cockpit is excellent. They praise the additional power of the new engine and tell us that it provides excellent acceleration.  The overall impression of the airplane is that it handles well and is easy to fly.

Unlike other single engine seaplanes, even large changes in power settings do not produce extreme pitching, and require only minimal trim adjustments. Directional stability is excellent despite the high engine mount.  Even during the steepest of turns, only a small amount of rudder is necessary to keep them well coordinated.

The Seawind 300C handles turbulence like a much larger aircraft, smoothing out even summer afternoon skies. Slow speed handling is excellent, with very predictable stalls which are gentle and straight forward.

Seawind tells us that 115 of their aircraft were sold as kit planes. Eighty of these have been built and are now flying. They are taking orders for the new factory produced airplane.  To date it is awaiting full certification by Transport Canada and the U.S. F.A.A.

The Seawind website shows that the company is seeking investors in order to start with manufacturing of the aircraft.
