Sikorsky 76

The Sikorsky 76, introduced in 1978, was designed for the civil aviation market, primarily as a offshore oil support vehicle. It quickly gained market share after its introduction by obtaining over 200 orders in its first two years of production. The helicopter has been exported to customers in 59 nations throughout the world.

The helicopter has seating for up to twelve passengers, plus the navigation equipment to fly in IFR conditions. Optional equipment includes air conditioning and long range fuel tanks. The rotors have special vibration dampening driven through a low noise transmission. Interior comfort is provided with a luxurious sound reduction cabin, larger than others in its class.

Pilots fly the Sikorsky 76 using fly by wire controls. Landing gear are hydraulically operated and fully retractable. Wheel brakes are also hydraulically actuated.

The fuselage incorporates light weight composite materials and a honeycomb construction for weight savings. Its blades rotate on elastometric bearings with hydraulic drag dampers. A fitting above the rotor head minimizes shaft vibrations from being transmitted to the helicopter fuselage.

In addition to executive transportation, the Sikorsky 76 is used as a flying ambulance, for search and rescue missions, and as an airline transport.

The latest Sikorsky 76 helicopter, model D, has a more powerful engine, increased payload, rotor de-icing, and better fuel economy than its predecessor. Rotors are of composite construction and have additional vibration dampening.

Some 1,100 Sikorsky 76 helicopters of all types have been produced to date.

Sikorsky 76 - Scalejet

The photos above and below are of the Sikorsky 76 for sale by Scalejet Helicopters. It is 84" long and 14" wide. A Pahl GPH 70 turbine is the recommended power. It is made for Benzin/Gasser mechanics. Features are an all composite fuselage, retracts with doors, and a stainless steel exhaust.

The next two pictures are of the Sikorsky 76 fuselages from Darth's Helibodies. They are 450 size, made of styrene, and will fit Bell Cp, T-Rex and similar mechanics.

We found a JR Propo Sikorsky 76 in a .90 size at ABF Modellbau Wyler. It is 55 1/2" long.
